Before the Fairies existed to answer human fears, the mother of creations offered two choices for all men, after her embodiment in two forms defeated the four brothers. Although she wished that all humans be kind and virtuous, she knew there inevitably would be a few seeking the material possessions long lost in the darkness. The two choices she offered were to either be virtuous or immoral in nature. Most wise men believed that virtuousness is only valued because of the immoral and they quoted it “Only in the darkness shall light pave way and only in ignorance can one desecrate a day.”
Men are the brightest of all creations but their resolute is weak without a purpose and so the choices were given by the Mother.
While men who chose being virtuous, held their icon as Olrin, the symbol of knowledge and the master who defeated the Great Dream led their lives helping each other and wished for nothing more than peace and bliss. While the men who chose the dark powers held their icon as Archen and their driving desire was unyielding power and eternal life.
Since ages, both these choices were balanced but as years passed by, most humans supported Olrin. The world for the first time witnessed an imbalance and most men believed that a war was near and that it would certainly not lead to a happy ever after.
Chapter I - The Chain of Three Jewels
A century after Olrin held the last council which was conducted every year to help humans solve their problems; the world was ruled by a ferocious Emperor named Aelius. He ruled the complete Vernakula World and was blessed with a powerful army and a lot of wealth. However he wasn’t happy as he did not have a descendant for many years.
After several sacrifices and rituals to the Mother, he was blessed with a boy and he named him Saviour. Born with blue eyes and milk white skin tone, the boy was charming and as he grew, he was trained to be an exceptional warrior. When the prince was fifteen years old, he fell ill and was bedridden. Neither the healers nor the councillors could help cure his illness and as days passed by he grew weak.
One night, Aelius stood beside the window in his private chamber, staring at the stars wishing for a miracle to happen, his shining black hair and crimson silk robe were swaying with a cold breeze. Moonlight lit the chamber and the stone walls hymned as the autumn winds struck them. The door opened and Aelius turned to see his minister Glinda walk in. She was a lean old woman with white silky hair till her waist. Her shallow green eyes sparkled in the dim room and when she approached the Emperor she bowed.
“What is it, Glinda? What brings you to me at this hour?” asked Aelius curiously looking back at the dark sky.
“It is about our prince, Emperor,” she answered.
Emperor turned towards her and she continued “It hurts me to tell you about this, Emperor, but being the minister under your command and blessed with many powers, it is my duty to do so. Our prince is a blessed soul and is capable of wearing the Chain of Three Jewels which is held with the Knights of Merk. By wearing this chain, our prince’s soul will become visible to a few mortals including me after his death, and he can help me in my pursuit to find Olrin- the lost icon of our faith. I did not tell you about this all these years because, I hoped that our prince might live but as days are passing by, darkness is embracing him.”
Aelius sternly said “My son has been dead since the day he got ill and I wish him not to suffer any longer. I have no objection to what you said, as my son would help thousands of men by helping you find Olrin. However I want you to succeed in this mission at any cost!”
“Your kind heart is what makes our people prosperous, Emperor and I are grateful for your acceptance. I cannot assure you that I will surely know where Olrin is, as even the greatest minds in the world have failed to find him. Counting on your acceptance, I have already sent three battalions to fight against the Knights on my command. They will fetch us the Chain of Three Jewels.”
Aelius smirked and said “I am lucky to have you Glinda. Your service is unparalleled. Let me know when our men are back.”
Glinda bowed and before leaving she said “I expect them to be here by sunrise, Emperor.”
Chapter II - War at Golden Tower
A scout raced towards the Knights surrounding the Golden Tower and informed them about the army of Emperor Aelius marching towards them with thousands of men. General Elrin the chief of all thousand knights of Merk ordered them to stand in rows and prepare for the battle. Ever since Lucifer asked them to secure the Golden Tower, they built camps around the towers and ensured its safety. In the next few hours the Emperor’s army arrived and Elrin ordered his cavalry to attack as he knew that the army would rain fire arrows on them.
As soon as Knights of Merk charged forward, all the six generals in the Emperor’s army ordered their archers to shoot every arrow unleashing their wrath. Two thousand arrows rose up in the sky and before the Knights of Merk reached the standing army seven rounds of arrows were shot killing half of the Knights.
Foreseeing the enemy’s arrival, all of the six generals commanded their soldiers to charge forward to complete the rampage. After the war, every Knight of Merk was killed and the Emperor army did loose a lot of me.
After the war, six generals of the Emperor's army raced towards the tower. As they raced towards it they saw a coal-black tower that actually looked like a prison. Walking towards the tower General Hector pulled out his shiny, lustrous sharp sword with a ruby embedded on it and placed it in the keyhole of the seven-foot tall door with a dull black appearance and contained a mystically odd design on it.
The door opened and Hector thanked Glinda for the sword and within a wink of an eye the entire tower turned gold in colour shining in the sun’s race. The door finally cracked open. Inside the tower was a statue of Lucifer and to the walls were black banners. As the generals stepped in twelve enchanters appeared out of nowhere.
All of them looked like saints with a heavy sense of demonic powers within them. One of them warned the generals to go back or face death. All the six generals knowing the danger ahead were well prepared and pulled out the best weapons given by Glinda to each one of them from their sheath respectively.
Though all the high priests looked lean and weak, they were extremely powerful and in each strike, they carried the power of five men within in addition they even teleported. Ultimately, after a fight, General Hector was the only one left out after all the high priests were killed. He walked towards the tall black statue of Lucifer around the neck of the statue was the precious and pristine chain.
The chain of three jewels it was called and is studded with a rare combination of ruby, an emerald and a sapphire which was made by the fairies he was told. Upon gazing on it for a long time, he quickly removed it from the neck of the statue, put it carefully in his stash and walked towards his army and rode back to the capital.
Chapter III - Soul Cages
Glinda sat in her chamber awake all night waiting for the Generals to return. Even the cold autumn breeze and the pleasant atmosphere could not make her fall asleep.
As the Sun rose, she heard the city guards drumming. Getting off her chair, she immediately raced towards the ministers’ hall which was towards South of the palace.
She sat in her chair opposite to the door, closing her eyes; she wished that her Generals fetched her Chain of Three Jewels. She was so lost in her thoughts that she did not even hear a General walk in and a moment later she heard a firm voice saying “Olrin did fulfil your wish minister. I have finally brought you back the Chain of Three Jewels as you commanded. However, the war of Golden Tower did take a lot of lives, Generals and soldiers alike.”
Opening her eyes to look at General Hector, Glinda gladly exclaimed “You are back! Hail Olrin!”
General Hector was one of the six Generals who lead the battalions against the Knights of Merk.
“The Cursed in the Golden Fort were extraordinarily skilled minister and their charms along with their teleportation power made them invincible. While six Generals walked in with the swords given to us by you, I am the only lucky survivor,” said Hector looking into the shallow green eyes of Glinda.
The entire room was once more silent and the breeze hymned as it always did.
“I always believed in you,” stated Glinda looking at the forty years old General with a muscular body and amber brown skin tone. His silver coated armour with two crossed swords symbol was stained with the knights’ blood. He passed her the Chain of Three Jewels and Glinda looked at the three gemstones, Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire embedded in gold.
As Hector walked back towards the stables, Glinda glared at the three jewels. She recollected reading the fairies of Kingdom of Imprin forge it.
Holding the chain, Glinda rushed to the royal chambers of Prince Saviour. As she entered she could see Emperor Aelius sitting beside his son like he did for an hour every morning.
Looking at Glinda he furiously screamed “I wish my power as an Emperor could somehow help save my son!”
“Everything happens for a reason, Emperor. Let us not forget that even the scariest night’s end with the brightest light and not a soul is reborn without a purpose to serve”, said Glinda trying to soothe the Emperor.
“It’s easier said than experienced” retorted Emperor looking at his son who lay asleep since a year.
Aelius continued “I have sat for a year, waiting for my son to be cured. Every morning, I walk towards his chamber hoping that he would open his eyes and I have always been disappointed. Glinda, even faith shatters at some point of time.”
Glinda looked at the prince for a moment and asked “The chain has arrived, Emperor. However before I use it, I must presage that our prince might even die the moment he wears it.”
Aelius placed his hands on the prince’s face and kissed on his forehead for one last time and walked out of the chamber. As he walked past Glinda, he said in a broken voice “Forgive me, son. I have never taken good care of you. If your mother would have been alive, she might have made sure you lived a happy life. Forgive me for what I am about to do to you.”
When the Emperor left, Glinda adorned the prince with the chain and immediately rushed towards the meditation hall which was built in between the royal gardens beside the palace. Standing in the centre of the meditation hall that had ten meditating saints, she chanted a hex.
For a moment she left her body and travelled back to the prince’s chamber as a soul. As soon as she reached, she could see the soul of the prince raise from his body. She followed the soul as it travelled through the capital city searching for a graveyard. The soul rushed through anything that came in its way and finally reached a graveyard. For a moment everything seemed normal but what Glinda saw in the graveyard aghast her. She returned to her mortal form, and screamed, “Fetch me a horse, now!” her screams disturbing the saints.
An old man who served in the meditation hall by cleaning it every day on her command brought a horse from the stables. She informed the old man to send word to the Emperor that she would return back as soon as possible.
Later she rode North towards the radiating City of Fairies for few days through the City of Fists, a clumsy and unplanned city best known for the rivers that flew through it, she finally reached the Fort of Four Hunters. One of the most successful achievements for Glinda was that her son was a Hunter. The fort built with black stone, was huge and was located in the outskirts of the city of Fairies which was the most beautiful city in the entire world.
Beside the fort, were a lake and a lawn that covered the fort in all directions. It was the home for the Hunters who spent their lifetime learning and fighting according to the Mother’s orders. From the past few decades, they spent their days learning about the shortcomings in all the creations and searching for Olrin. They lost their communication with Mother as their icon who spoke the Mother’s words was nowhere to be found.
As Glinda rode towards the fort, before she reached the gates, she could see Kingston, a muscular man wearing blue robes, the chief of all Hunters teaching children in the lawn how to fight with swords. After she mentioned to the guards that she wanted to see her son Jasper, she was permitted to enter and her horse was taken to the stables.
As she entered the main hall, she saw Wiler the smartest of all the Hunters with golden eyes, cream white skin tone and lean face with red curly hair. He was her son’s best friend and as usual was writing a book. Seeing Glinda, he greeted her and informed her directions to Jasper’s new room.
As soon as she reached her son’s chamber, she hugged him. After a moment of casual talk, she explained to him how she had ordered for the Chain of Three Jewels and told him “When the prince’s body reached the graveyard, Cursed soldiers of Archen locked his soul in one of thousand Soul Cages built.”
Jasper, the best archer among the Hunters with black silky hair, tiffany blue eyes and ivory white skin tone looked at her, shocked and she continued “In the meditation hall the wise had called it the Cage of Desired Souls!”
Jasper thought for a moment and shrieked “With the cages, everything makes sense!”
Chapter IV - Archen’s Ploy
Both Jasper and Glinda walked into the lawn before the fort, and as they walked, enjoying the scents of different flowers, Jasper said “Mother what I am about to tell you has been the study of the Hunters since years and I am telling you this in hope that you can help us.”
As Glinda waited to hear curiously, Jasper continued “Centuries ago when men were first given the choice between being virtuous and immoral after Olrin and Archen fought together to save this world from the Four Brothers, based on their natures, men chose. Those who wanted a happy life chose the virtuous, while those who wanted to stay young and immortal, seeking power chose the dark side. Anyway, for centuries the people who believed in Olrin, the symbol of righteousness, have led a life of bliss and as years passed by, more and more followers took the virtuous path as nothing is more beautiful and satisfying than happiness for a mortal, like human. This alteration made Archen furious, though he offered all of his follower’s rebirth and extended their lifetime with many materialistic powers, his brother Olrin was turning off his followers.
In his anger, Archen promised himself that he would defeat his brother and sink the world so deep into darkness that it shall never come back to light again. With this thought, he worked on a plan and a century ago he achieved it by imprisoning Olrin. After imprisoning each year the number of rebirths among the humans decreased.”
Glinda interrupted asking, “So you mean Archen is not letting a few souls to take birth again?”
Jasper nodded in agreement and exclaimed “Yes! Since Olrin cannot intervene and humans are susceptible to desires, Archen became invincible. He ensured that he locked souls seeking desires as you said in his Soul Cages. These souls with unfulfilled desires when locked in cages, pleaded with Archen to give them a body in order to satisfy their desires and he promised them a body but in return, asked them to fight his war of eliminating the Virtuous.”
Glinda stopped walking and looking at the timid face of her son, she asked “Why is he doing this?”
Jasper smirked and replied “We think Archen has hundred thousand souls locked in his cages. All these souls are striving for a body and when the time comes he would unleash all of them and gift them the power to possess another human’s body thereby building thousands of followers within no time. These humans will be his supporters and they would allure the ignorant for his cause.”
Glinda asked again, “Since he has enough souls, what is stopping him from unleashing them?”
Jasper patiently explained “If a soul should possess a new body it should be cleansed of its previous karma according to the laws of creations, thereby starting a new life with no trace of previous memory but Archen does not intend to cleanse their karma or memories, and in order to achieve this these souls must be dip in the Pool of Undying, which is created once in every age. Fortunately for Archen, it is created in the winter next year as the moon's races shine on the Ice hill located in the Kingdom of Lorian.”
Glinda thought “Fifteen more months and Archen shall succeed.”
Jasper sat on the grass beside the freshwater lake and sitting next to him, Glinda asked again, “So there is no means anyone can stop this? Will the Virtuous be perished?”
Jasper took a deep breath and replied “Not exactly. In all the creations, Archen alone is not powerful; there are others who have power by the gift of Mother Vernakula. Two such powerful creations are, Soul Tamers and Soul Snatchers who have lived in the last Age. While the Soul Tamers control a soul, using them for their need, the Soul Snatchers suck souls out of humans, thereby killing them. Though there are many Soul Tamers in this world, there is only one Soul Snatcher at any point of time in human creations, ever since the Imaginary Wars. We Hunters had once fought against the Snatchers, but now we wish to seek the help of these powerful people to fight against Archen.”
Chapter V - The Quest
As Glinda and Jasper sat beside the lake, Jasmine a young girl as fair as the moon with black silky hair till her waist asked Glinda, “Mother, can I speak with Jasper for a moment in person?”
Jasmine was one of the four Hunters and the only girl left in the team said, after both of them walked a few steps away from Glinda, “A messenger just arrived carrying the words from our master. His holiness has summoned all the Hunters and has an important message for them. We need to leave now and stewards would take care of the students till we return.”
Jasper thought for a moment and said “My mother will accompany us. She has some information which I want our master to hear.”
Jasmine looked at Glinda for a moment, as Glinda stared at the lake, and nodded in agreement.
Master Illian was the trainer of seven Hunters and had been one of the blessed men to live through the Ages. From the past few decades, Master Illian had been tracing Olrin and was one of the few knowledgeable men.
Along with the four Hunters, rode Glinda to the city of Fortune, a huge city with three rivers and ten forts which is where Master Illian lived.
As everyone entered the University of Juriv, the second biggest university in the world of Vernakula, with more than twenty thousand students trained in one hundred arts. All the five of them entered through the South gate and entered into the soul masters library.
The huge room was filled with hundreds of shelves and thousands of books with many scholars who spent their time sitting beside the windows, reading. The calm hall with cold winds filled with knowledgeable minds is a dream location for many.
All the Hunters sat around a round wooden table after bowing to their master and before the master spoke, Jasper informed them about the Soul Cages that his mother has just told him.
While master Illian greeted Glinda with a smile, everyone was silent for few moments as everything made sense now. Though they suspected that Archen might build cages, they pushed aside the thought, as it was very tough and required the blood of the Mother herself.
Master Illian firmly said “I have a very important message for every one of you. After two decades of failed attempts, I have finally succeeded in locating our Olrin by a vision presented to me. Although I don’t know who helped me, I finally know the location. In the vision, I could see Olrin chained in the Soul Snatchers Arena and these chains cannot be destructed easily.”
Everyone was awestruck as Illian continued “In order to free Olrin there are certain weapons we must possess in our stash. Without the weapons, we can’t release Olrin. To obtain these weapons, I am sending you all on a quest so pay attention carefully.”
Taking a deep breath, Illian said “Firstly, I need you to fetch me the Arrow of Unleashment as it alone can serve as the weapon to unleash Olrin. This arrow must be fetched from the heart of the sea within the submerged island. Along with it we need the soul of the most powerful man for which I would like you to accompany along with you, the three most powerful men.”
While everyone whispered to each other, master Illian announced “The three men are two Soul Tamers and a Soul Snatcher. I am afraid without them you won't be able to complete this quest.”
While Glinda sat eagerly, wanting to see them, as suddenly out of nowhere appeared two Soul Tamers who looked like common men. They wore silver chain mails and had golden hands. Their golden hair, shining white skin, oval faces and Maya blue eyes with a silver crown on their head, made them look like creators themselves. Lean personalities with golden hammers in their hands, they were like angels from Irunakula World. A moment later appeared, a fifteen years old boy with platinum armour and blue crystal hands. His black hair with silver crown and milk white cheeks made him extremely beautiful.
Master Illian bowed, seeing the boy and everyone in the room also bowed, following their master.
A moment later, master Illian concluded saying, “Wait no more; I hope all of you succeed in this quest. Hail Olrin!”
Everyone except the Soul Snatcher shouted “Hail Olrin!”
Before leaving, Master Illian whispered to Wiler, the name of the most powerful man.
Chapter VI - Snatching the Life
As soon as the four hunters along with Glinda, Soul Tamers and Soul Snatcher walked out of the library, Wiler announced, “Master Illian informed me that the soul of the most powerful man is of Emperor Aelius.”
While Glinda stood shocked, the Soul Snatcher in a silvery voice said “The arrow can be brought easily, as it is from my home but when the arrow is taken from the box, it needs the soul immediately. So we need the soul first.”
Glinda immediately said “The Emperor is a kind hearted man. He even let his son die in order to let me find Olrin, and before this little snatcher sucks life out from him, I would like to talk to the Emperor.”
One of the Soul Tamers named Yarin, a muscular man with broad chest, bronze skin tone and milk white eyes disagreed saying, “You are going to tell the Emperor that we have all come to his province to kill him? Nothing would be more foolish.”
Even the Soul Hunters agreed and before Glinda spoke, all of them started riding towards the capital. Verni, the name of the world's capital was almost as huge as an independent kingdom with ten cities combined into a city, with perfect city planning. The clean streets with a lot many tradesmen and ten hundred thousand people including, soldiers and three castles made the capital, one of the most remarkable places in the Vernakula World.
After few days of journey, they reached the capital and halted before the castle gates. It rained heavily and all of them could hear thunder in the dark cloudy night. Glinda vouched for the men whom she accompanied and the guards opened the gates.
The Soul Tamers and snatcher covered their armours and hands in amber brown robes and were asked by Glinda to wait outside the throne room. Surprisingly the evening council was being held, which was very rare and on the throne, sat Emperor Aelius hearing the complaints from his people and imprisoning the criminals, as soon as he saw Glinda, he became anxious and asked: “Glinda, did my son’s soul help you find Olrin? Did you find Him?”
Glinda replied saying “I’m afraid, I have failed Emperor, but the prince helped me know the plan of Archen. He has imprisoned the prince and now he is locked in a soul cage but…”
While some of the ministers in the council were shocked hearing Glinda. Emperor shouted “I trusted you and gave you away my son and in return you give me excuses!”
Glinda kneeling on the floor pleaded, “Emperor, I wish your forgiveness but as of now we are all on a quest that would unleash Olrin for sure.”
Jasper stepped forward, out of the four Hunters who stood behind Glinda and stated, “Emperor, your son has served for the greater good and my mother just ensured that it happened.”
Aelius looked at the Hunter for a moment and shouted in a shrill voice, “Arrest them and throw them in dungeons.”
As soon as the Emperor commanded, the guards in the throne room marched toward the Hunters to seize them. The four Hunters pulled out their weapons and defended the attack from guards. Ministers in the throne room also attacked and the throne room echoed with the sounds of swords clashing in no time.
Kingston fought with three guards with his gold coated spear as he swung the spear, his opponents only could defend. Jasmine with her two silver coated daggers pierced her dagger into the chest of the first soldier who was near her. In the next moment she cut off another soldier’s hand. Her agility could not be handled and before minutes she cut open two necks. Before they even knew what happened they lay dead on the ground.
Wiler drew out his sword from its sheath and fought with four sword men at once. As they tried attacking by surrounding him, Wiler still managed to defend and cut through one of them in the beginning.
Jasper standing behind his mother shot three arrows every second and with that pace none of the soldiers could reach him. Even though all of them attacked exceptionally, Emperor Aelius still sat in his throne unmoved.
Hearing the swords clashing, the Soul Tamers along with the Soul Snatcher walked into the chamber after the court guards rushed in to fight. The Soul Snatcher pulled out his blue crystal hand, out of his brown robe and seeing its soldiers, stopped fighting. Extending his hand forward asking for the soul, the Soul Snatcher named Elrik, a boy of fifteen years, with chartreuse yellow eyes, lean personality and coal black shining hair, dragged the Emperor Aelius down from the throne stairs. Kneeling on the ground, Emperor shouted in pain as he looked into the yellow eyes of the boy, who was sucking out his soul. He shouted for one last time and fell down on the floor, dead, while the Soul Snatcher caught the soul and his crystal blue hand turned ebony black.
Chapter VII - Lost City
Just a moment later rushed in General Hector along with fifty men. He pulled out his sword and attacked Wiler the nearest Hunter to him.
Wiler was the second best swordsman after Olrin in Vernakula World and even fought brother Dream along with Olrin in the Imaginary Wars. As General Hector attacked, he defended himself with his sword. As both fought, all other soldiers stood around, watching them and Wiler tried piercing his sword into Hector’s chest, but the General defended with his round silver coated shield with two cross swords imprinted on it.
While Kingston, Jasper and Jasmine still fought the guards, Soul Tamers pulled out their golden hammers and tackled every soldier before them. As soon as their hammer touched the soldiers, they turned into stones and with a second stroke; they fell on the ground, broken.
After a tiresome fight, Wiler managed to cut on General Hector’s left shoulder and in agony, Hector chanted a hex and his long sharp pointed sword turned onyx black. He tried chopping off Wiler’s head, and even though Wiler defended himself with his sword, he knew death was final and as expected, the black sword cut through the Wiler’s sword and chopped off his head.
"Emperor? Emperor Aelius?" bawled General Hector, racing toward the dead Emperor after he killed Wiler.
"I'm sorry! I...!” Glinda trembled in guilt, still kneeling before the Emperor, crying all along and before she could finish, Jasper dragged her out of the court while Jasmine and Soul Tamers cleared the way. The second Soul Tamer named Xerin, a muscular man with bone white skin tone and lavender eyes shouted, “The eagles might be on their way. We sent for them knowing that we can’t walk out of the castle killing the Emperor.”
All of them rushed towards the top of the castle and the royal castle was so huge and towering, that the pinnacle of it touched the clouds in the sky. At last, they reached a private chamber. Jasper opened the window and could see the eagles gliding around the castle and one of the Soul Tamer created a flame out of his golden hand and waved. Though the archer shot the eagles, they were not harmed as they were powered with Vernakula’s Flame.
The eagles now glided around the chamber and turning towards the Hunters, Xerin instructed, “Trust me and dive. They will catch you and as soon as you touch them, a blue flame shall arise around you that shall protect you from arrows shot by the soldiers. It is called the Vernakula’s Flame, a blessing from the Mother herself.”
Everyone looked at Xerin, wondering if they had come so far for dying, jumping off a castle, meanwhile Yarin being a Soul Tamer, jumped out of the window and as he landed on a huge eagle, cobalt blue flame formed around them. Hector along with his soldiers rushed towards the chambers to kill every last one of them and unable to defend hunters, also started jumping.
Xerin, for one last time shouted “Hurry before they catch us!” and jumped. Listening to him, Glinda finally jumped. Though arrows were shot on to them in chamber, luckily none of them were hurt and as soon as they jumped, their screams echoed in the castle and even the arrows shot from the castle walls were of no use, as the flames around protected them.
As Jasmine and Kingston settled, two Soul Tamers and the mysterious Soul Snatcher were already flying ahead with Jasper. Enjoying the cold breeze after the rain, they traveled all night to reach the Coast of Hervik Sea from where they could reach the Lost City in the submerged island.
After everyone got down the gargantuan reddish orange scaled eagles, the young Soul Snatcher Elrik informed Kingston, "Please stay here while we bring you the arrow from the Broken Fort.”
Kingston just nodded his head as he stood wondering how Wiler lost his life fighting a General. After informing Kingston, the Soul Tamers and the Soul Snatcher, walked into the sea and within no time, all the three of them disappeared, while the others waited along the coast with the gigantic eagles.
As the Soul Tamers and Soul Snatcher walked, the fishes and eels bowed as they saw the Soul Snatcher and when they reached the fort of the submerged island they could hear the echo of souls welcoming their Prince, the Soul Snatcher. As soon as they entered into the broken fort that had no roof and the Soul Tamers paced towards their chambers and one of them pulled out his hammer from his chests, the other wore his armour. They came back to the abandoned courtroom.
Meanwhile, the prince walked to a chamber beside the courtroom, it was filled with silver chests placed on the ground. He slowly walked towards a silver chest box and the voice of the souls echoed “Don’t! Don’t!”
With his black crystal hand, he opened the chest, and in it were three golden arrows with ruby, sapphire and emerald gemstones heads. Looking at them for a while, the prince took out the sapphire arrow after chanting a spell.
He walked back to the courtroom and placed the arrow on the anvil. While one Soul Tamer hit the arrow with his golden hammer, the other changed its position; meanwhile the snatcher released the Emperor’s soul. Now the other soul voices echoed louder and louder shouting “Don’t! Don’t!”
A few moments later the arrow turned completely, into Maya blue colour and the Soul Tamer stopped striking it.
Chapter VIII - The Cursed
After a few moments of thought, Kingston exclaimed “That General is not an ordinary warrior. Killing a Soul Hunter is very arduous and his sword is also onyx black, the same colour Brother Shadow used.”
Jasper cursorily asked “Isn’t black the colour of all weapons from Orunakula World? Maybe he is with the brothers?”
While Kingston nodded his head accepting the fact, Jasmine said “One of the few incidents I remember when I was young is when Olrin was holding me and his opponent was holding a coal black sword. So black, that it could suck out the life and happiness from this world.”
After Jasmine concluded, Kingston faintly said “Dream.”
Glinda did not understand anything they spoke, but she told the Hunters “General Hector is a well known fighter. He was the one who killed five Cursed alone and brought the chain of three jewels to me.”
In the meantime the Soul Tamers and snatcher walked back and placing the arrow in Jasper’s hand Elrik said “Make sure it hits the bull's-eye!”
Jasper took the arrow and immediately said “In the city of Valer there is a forest called Abyss. Master Illian mentioned that Olrin is imprisoned in the arena, which lies in the forest. This arena was once the platform for the soul masters until they were killed by the four brothers.”
All of them got back on their eagles and again started to fly without any flame. Rejoicing the morning sun rise, warm air and enjoying the sight of the clean view of the land they reached the forest and the eagles landed at a distance. Yarin the Soul Tamer who called the eagles sent them away while Xerin informed the Hunters, “Brace yourself and protect Jasper at any cost. He has the arrow and if he falls, the quest will be difficult to complete.”
While Kingston and Jasmine took positions beside Jasper, Xerin continued, “Humans call this forest Abyss, as no human who entered the forest after the Soul Hunters has ever returned alive. Even the Hunters are no exception, and the Cursed in the forest would kill us easily. So I and Yarin would crash all the trees, thereby exposing the Cursed.”
Saying this, both the Soul Tamers hit a tree each with their golden hammers at once and all the trees one after the other crashed. When all the trees fell, the three Hunters could see five Cursed flying on their black wings facing them and the arena was miles away.
One of the Cursed smiled and shouted, “As long as you won't step into the forest, you shall stay alive!”
Glinda and the Soul Snatcher stayed back while the three Hunters walked in, as both of them couldn’t help but fight the Cursed. Beside Jasper were two Soul Tamers holding their hammers. As all of them stepped in, the Cursed pulled out their double axe, shield and flew towards the Hunters.
Kingston battered one of the Cursed, who raced towards him so fiercely that his spear penetrated through the shield and pierced the heart of Cursed. Moments before the Cursed turned to ashes, he faintly said “Hail Archen!”
While the other Cursed also dashed towards the Hunters and tamers, one of the Cursed hustled towards the arena. Two Cursed attacked the two Soul Tamers, within no time axes and hammers clashed. Yarin defending the attack from the Cursed chanted a spell and flame aroused around the head of the golden hammer. Seeing the flame the Cursed stepped back for a moment and seizing the opportunity, Yarin hit the Cursed on his chest so hard with his burning hammer that the Cursed immediately died.
Jasmine tactfully fought with a Cursed and this time, Jasper who was standing behind her shot an arrow that pierced through the forehead of a Cursed. In the meantime, another Cursed, who fought with Xerin, cut the Soul Tamer into half with his double axe, staining his axe with blood.
Yarin punched the Cursed from behind with his hammer and held Xerin from falling on the ground. Shouting “Will is the ultimate master!” Xerin faded into the nature.
Leaving behind the Soul Snatcher and Glinda, all other walked towards the arena. A vast area filled with sea sand, with two pillars in the center and above the pillars was a circle of silver which looked like a pulley. From it were two crimson red chains that held a weak man tied who did not even look at them.
Kingston commanded, “Jasper hit the pulley and you unleash Olrin.”
Jasper raced forward and shot an arrow and the last Cursed who raced towards the arena in the beginning all of a sudden rushed and placed himself before the pulley. Though he tried to catch the arrow, the Cursed failed and the arrow killed him. Moments before he died he shouted “Hail Archen! You have failed!”
While everyone shouted in vain, Jasper wickedly smiled and shot the arrow after the Cursed turned to ashes. He shouted “We are called Hunters for a reason!”
When the arrow hit the circle of silver, the crimson red chains shattered into pieces and the man crashed on the ground. Within a moment he rose, silver armour formed on his chest and on this head formed a golden crown embedded with topaz gemstone. In milk-white skin tone, wide white wings and black silky hair raised the icon of faith. As Olrin walked forward, all the Hunters bowed and he created two falcon swords and shouted “Face me now brother! The last time you imprisoned me, you betrayed me by backstabbing me and for a century I was held your prisoner, but times have changed and today I shall end you!”
Archen appeared and the blessed for the first time could see a white man wearing a black chest armour with a lean body, holding a spear in his right hand and butter yellow eyes. He spoke in a honey sweet voice, “Finally brother, you rise again.”
Chapter IX - Combat
“Two decades ago when the first two Soul Tamers were born, I thought the pathway to reach you had opened and just a decade ago when the Soul Snatcher was born, I knew that you would be released, no matter how much I tried to stop them, I would fail and you would be set free. Finally, when you are free, you would use all your powers to destroy me. So I did come up with a plan, I built a thousand Soul Cages and locked hundred thousand souls collected from humans who died with materialistic desires.” said Archen, revealing his plan to his brother who was facing him.
Olrin in a stern voice said “Unfortunately your plan will not work as these souls need to dip in the Pool of Undying before they take a body, and this pool shall not form until the next year. I might have been imprisoned and weak but I have never stopped counting the years.”
Immediately after Olrin finished, he flew towards Archen using his broad wings and swung his swords to cut his arms. Archen defended with his spear and chanted a spell, from his spear spilled three gemstones and rose three Cursed warriors and the Hunters again fought with them. Olrin pitched both his swords with great agility and Archen easily defended, protecting himself with his spear.
After a long fight, Olrin cut off one of Archen’s arms and crying in pain, Archen immediately disappeared. While Olrin stood ready, waiting for him to appear again, Archen appeared behind Olrin and tried striking him with his spear and this time, Olrin turned around and hit Archen on his face with his fist and when Archen fell on the ground, Olrin shouted “No matter what happens, only the good shall survive and this time I would not take chances.”
Saying this Olrin raised his sword and just before he killed Archen, neither did Archen disappear nor did he plead but he wickedly smiled. While Olrin looked at him furiously, in his silvery voice, Archen said “Tell me, brother. If I did not have anything against you why would I come to fight you in the first place? Do you really think that four Hunters, two Soul Tamers and a Soul Snatcher along with a minister can defeat the great Archen’s cause? The fact is it was me who guided them all along. If you could see, I was the one who made them kill the Emperor and created chaos in this world. Now all kingdoms will become independent again and fight for supremacy. I made Glinda kill the prince of this world by giving her the chain of three jewels through General Hector. Why else do you think he alone would be alive among six Generals who fought the Cursed? I also showed Glinda, the Soul Cages, thereby making her accept the plan to snatch the Emperor’s soul and finally I gifted master Illian the vision about your location. It was me all along and here we are.”
Olrin lowered his sword and looked at Archen puzzled while Archen continued “Everything that happened is only because I made it happen and I am no fool to face you after all these years just to die from your sword and prove to the world that justice always wins and you were right all along.”
Olrin shouted, “What have you done?”
Archen in his grating voice said “It is true that the hundred thousand souls that I locked in my Soul Cages should dip into the eternal pool before they take a new body to satisfy their desires but I knew that your supporters would not let me succeed. So I have spent the last twenty years performing rituals to create the pool of eternal life by my power and in the process, I have sacrificed many of my powers. Finally, with the help of a thousand Cursed, I have managed to give only one hundred souls the power to own any living human and corrupt their minds. Like the humans say “No matter how many good fruits are kept in a basket one spoiled fruit can ruin them all.” These one hundred souls shall always spread the darkness and within no time you shall fail and fall again brother as your supporters would kill each other lost in the darkness created by my ignorant children.”
While Olrin thought about it for a moment, Archen created his spear in his right hand and struck it through Olrin chest. Kneeling on the floor and suffering in agony Olrin looked at his brother and standing up Archen created a blood red sword in his left hand and raised it.
And just before Archen cut off Olrin’s head, he asked “The Hunters, Soul Tamers and everyone else was misguided because I wished no intrusion when the rituals were going on.”
Olrin bowed, accepting defeat and Archen swung the sword but all of a sudden two fairies appeared and holding his black coat they threw Archen aside. While he crashed on the ground, everyone in the arena heard the voice of the mother Vernakula; the creator and she spoke “I have created both of you to help the humans. While Olrin shall help the humans live optimistically, you Archen should punish the souls that have sinned and gift them rebirth for a better life but look at both of you now. It has been a century since Olrin last saw a human to help while Archen has been using the souls filled with unquenchable desires for your greed. Both of you are so lost in the race for supremacy that being brothers you haven't stopped from killing each other. You have degraded yourself and shall no longer be icons in this world. Brother Dreary’s arrows did work to destroy two of my forms.”
Olrin pleaded “Mercy mother! Mercy!”
Hearing the voice Glinda and Soul Snatcher walked towards the arena and when they entered they could see two fairies and a voice speaking while Olrin kneeled and Archen getting up. The mother continued “Mercy? Alright from this day from now, all humans shall have both good and bad, unlike the previous centuries where they chose between good or bad. From now on both Archen and Olrin shall live in everyone as their thoughts and it is the choice for every human to pick good choices and live good or to pick bad choices and suffer the consequences.”
Olrin still suffering in pain asked “The four brothers will come back and this time they would be invincible. How would the humans defend themselves?”
Mother furiously said “My brother Orunakula has betrayed me and has presented me four of his sons to help humans. While his sons destroyed my creations, he tried destroying me. I need my strengths back to face him and don’t worry about the humans as they will be safe as soon as the Enchanted Portal is opened.”
Both Olrin and Archen disappeared before they spoke anything else and the Mother Vernakula held “I want the Hunters, tamers and snatcher to search for General Hector and kill him before he unleashes the enemy.”
All of them bowed and the Mother along with the fairies disappeared.
